What is the story of Sierra Leone?
- The Sierra Leone Web site is a rich compendium of articles, pictures, etc.
- As usual, Wikipedia articles provide a solid background and good links.
- Wikipedia has a separate article on health care in Sierra Leone.
- The Sierra Leone Encyclopedia has info about NGOs and government activity.
- The CIA Factbook has lots of numbers and is updated often.
- The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has a website with various articles and information.
- Green Oranges on Lion Mountain (ISBN: 978-1903070291) by Dr Emily Joy tells the story of one volunteer’s experience just at the start of the civil war. Funny and touching. And true.
Here are some websites of organizations we know who are working in the area.
- The Sierra Leone-Plymouth Partnership works in Kailahun District, near our focal point.
- Village Hope works in the Northern Province.
- Mercy Ships has a fistula center in Aberdeen, Freetown, which is not far from our headquarters in Congo Cross, Freetown.
- The Friends of Sierra Leone is a non-profit organization of returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Sierra Leoneans, and others who served in Sierra Leone. Goals are to aid in the development and well-being of Salone; increase understanding; and serve as a gathering place for all to share ideas.
