How safe is midwifery care and home birth?
American Public Health Association passed a resolution supporting home birth. They
clearly think midwifery care is safe.
Citizens for Midwifery (CfM) quotes a study published in the British Medical Journal
(BMJ). This was a rigorous, prospective study managed very carefully to ensure
accuracy. Here is an excerpt from the BMJ article.
CfM also has a chart showing ideals for birth and the US reality.
Michael J. Stark, PhD, quotes several studies demonstrating the safety of homebirth
and midwifery care.
