Education
MOMS currently provides education in two different ways. First, we have a distance
learning program for women outside the United States, who study the academic
material required of direct-entry midwives. These students work with local preceptors
for their clinical experience, and follow local regulations.
Second, we work in Sierra Leone to create a comprehensive program (see our Sierra
Leone page) for traditional birth attendants. Current curricula provide a foundation
for this effort; but we will customize the program to meet the specific needs and
goals of the women with whom we work.
Speaker's Bureau
We provide interesting and informative presentations about working with non-profit
agencies and educating midwives, and describe our programs and projects. Previous
engagements include the following, among many others:
- St Luke's Hospital, San Francisco, Grand Rounds.
- Midwifery Today's 2007 annual conference in Eugene, Oregon.
- St. John's Episcopal Church, Clayton.

MOMS Distance Learning Program
This is a program for self-directed, highly motivated, independent learners outside the
United States. It includes two major areas:
- Academics
- Clinical Experience
Our program is NOT available to students in the US. It is rigorous, and
graduates could engage with the process for becoming a Certified Professional Midwife
with the North American Registry of Midwives.
For more information, see our Distance Learning Program page.
